Self-organized Multi-class Qos Provision for Abr Traac in Atm Networks

چکیده
This paper presents a distributed, market-based approach for providing multiple service classes with graded quality-of-service (QoS) characteristics in the context of supporting ABR traac in ATM networks. We deene a network model facilitating two types of network traac, reserved and non-reserved, the latter servicing traac sources with non-strict QoS requirements on a best-eeort basis. Two goals characterize the present approach: transparency of control and adaptability to changing application demand. A prioritized cell scheduling policy is deened which induces service classes with a range of QoS properties. Applications, in the process of trying to maximize individual utility, compete for band-width tagged by service class labels via a market mechanism. Greediness, in general, does not lead to system-optimal allocation of network resources, and system optimality, Nash equilibria, and Pareto optimality need not coincide. The main feature of our system is its ability to adapt to changing aggregate application demand and its QoS characteristics in the absence of explicit control where transparency extends both to applications and the network. Simulation results are shown which depict the self-organizing properties of the system.

We consider joint traac management of Variable and Available Bit Rate (VBR,ABR) services for ATM networks. For VBR service we consider loss sensitive call admission for virtual trunks of such traac. For ABR traac we propose a ow control mechanism based on measurement of the current queue length and band-width availability, as well as tracking the current activity level of sources, to adjust an ...
متن کاملDynamics of an Explicit Rate Allocation Algorithm for Atm Networks
In this paper we study the performance of an explicit rate allocation algorithm for ATM networks using the available bit-rate (ABR) class of service. We examine the behavior of ABR traac with simple cell sources, and demonstrate that the allocation algorithm is fair and maintains network eeciency in a variety of network conngurations. We also study the behavior of TCP/IP sources using ABR servi...
متن کاملA Distributed Protocol for Multi-Class QoS Provision in Noncooperative Many-Switch Systems
This paper presents an architecture for multi-class quality of service (QoS) provision in wide area networks. Users or applications are assumed to be sellsh and end-to-end QoS is determined by the service levels received by an application traac ow at each router or switch along a path. In previous work, we have given a comprehensive analysis of the noncooperative multi-class QoS provision game ...
متن کاملBuffer analysis of the explicit rate congestion control mechanism for the ABR service category in ATM networks
In this paper we consider an ABR traac stream which shares an output port of a switch with delay sensitive CBR/VBR traac. Congestion control of the ABR traac is achieved by means of an Explicit Rate congestion control scheme. The occupancy of the ABR-buuer in the switch is analytically evaluated. Application of the analysis on numerical examples illustrates the innuence of the following system ...

This paper presents a general traac control framework for Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks with its performance evaluation. The proposed traac control scheme can incorporate all the recently considered ATM service classes including Constant Bit Rate (CBR), real time Variable Bit Rate (rtVBR), non-real time Variable Bit Rate (nrVBR), Available Bit Rate (ABR) and Unspeciied Bit Rate (UBR...
